Maritime Week:
Town of Beaufort 300th Anniversary

Tuesday - Saturday, September 8-12, 2009


Enjoy boat building demonstrations in the Watercraft Center all week through Friday between 10 AM and 4 PM. Carteret County native Heber Guthrie will build a boat in the traditional style. Traditional Boat Rides on spritsail skiffs available all week through Friday from the museum's Watercraft Center. Free to the public. 10 AM to 2 PM. Sign up at the museum's Watercraft Center. Join us for evening events including a book signing with author Jack Dudley (Sept. 9, 6 PM), and an opening address and reception for the NC Maritime History Council Conference by historian Sonny Williamson (Sept. 10, 5-8 PM, Watercraft Center). Unburied Treasure: Underwater Archaeology and the Queen Anne's Revenge features hands-on demonstrations including gold panning and site-mapping demos, & artifact conservation displays. Hosted by the Friends of QAR, the event features archaeologists and conservators from The QAR Shipwreck Project (Sept. 10, 3 -6 PM, auditorium).

9 Wednesday Maritime Week: Learn to Kayak
Beginners receive paddling instruction and guided marsh tour.
Reservations $40, $35 FOM, $10 own kayak. 9:30 AM - 2 PM.

9 Wednesday Maritime Week: Jack Dudley Presentation & Book Signing
Meet the author of several local books including "Down East: Portraits of the Past"
and "Beaufort: An Album of Memories." 6 - 8 PM.

10 Thursday Maritime Week: Archaeology & the Queen Anne's Revenge
Conservation lab & Friends of QAR present artifacts & updates from the QAR Project.
3 - 6 PM.

10 Thursday Maritime Week: History Council Opening Address & Reception
Local historian Sonny Williamson's remarks are open to the public.
Admission charge. 6 - 8 PM.

12 Saturday Maritime Week: Carolina Maritime Model Society
Working boat models are on exhibit in the museum auditorium. 10 AM - 4 PM.
